Tehran Conference on Religion in the Modern World, Tehran, 12-24 October 2008 - Final Declaration


The Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights – US Foundation was established in April 2008 to contribute, publicize and support the work of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights in Oslo, Norway. In September this year the Oslo Center – US Foundation organized several presentations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota including a Forum presented at Augsburg College. The Forum, titled “ With Respect to Iran and the West: An Interface of Politics and Religion” was taped and will be added to our web site shortly. Two weeks later a conference was held in Tehran, Iran titled, “Tehran Conference on Religion in the Modern World.” The conference was organized (the fifth in a series) by The Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights, the Foundation for Dialogue Among Civilizations and the Club of Madrid. A “Final Declaration” was produced during the conference and is presented below.

Panel Discussion September 28, 2008 - With Respect to Iran and the West: An Interface of Politics and Religion


On Sunday, September 28, 2008, The Oslo Center - US Foundaton held a panel discussion at Augsburg College exploring how the nuances of cultural and religious differences affect the political relationship between Iran and the West, with the premise that informed and respectful dialog can reduce international tensions. In addition to Mr. Bondevik, panelists included: The Right Reverend John Bryson Chane, Eighth Bishop of Washington; Dr. William Beeman, University of Minnesota professor of Anthropology; and Imam Makram El-Amin, Masjid An-Nur Mosque.
